Joseph and Dicy Johnson
Posted by: John Johnson (ID *****2589) Date: March 28, 2003 at 13:46:07

My 4x grandparents were Joseph Johnson b. 1814 in Tennessee and wife Dicy b. 1812 Georgia. They lived in Polk County most of their lives in and around Benton. In the 1850 census the family is living in Murray County Georgia. The 1880 census shows that Joseph's father was born in North Carolina and mother in Kentucky. Their children were:

WILLIAM RILEY JOHNSON b.1835 (my 3x great grandfather, his son, my 2x grandfather was Jacob Washington Johnson)
MARTHA J. JOHNSON b. 1836
MARGARET E. JOHNSON b.1839
GEORGE WASHINGTON JOHNSON b. 1848 (married Rebecca ?)
THOMAS JEFFERSON JOHNSON b. 1850 (married Jane ?)
HARRIETT L. JOHNSON b. 1852
ANDREW JACKSON JOHNSON b. SEPT 15, 1854 (married Hattie Grigsby)
JOSEPH FRANK JOHNSON b. 1856

In the 1860 census there is a Nancy Johnson age 67, born 1793 in North Carolina living in the Johnson home. I do not know how Nancy is related to the family.

Joseph Sr. died Tennessee about 1895. His wife Dicy was still alive in the 1900 census (age 87) living in the home of her son Andrew. Andrew, George and Thomas were living in Ducktown Villiage, Polk County, Tennessee at the 1900 census next to one another.

My 2x grandfather married Sarah Melissa Wooden in Bradley County, Tennessee in 1878 and around 1911 settled in Heavener Oklahoma after living in Scott and Sebestian Counties, Arkansas. Jacob and Sarah raised theie family in Heavener and died there.

One of the brother's of Jacob (Joseph) settled in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

Any information would be greatly appriciated.

John
