My father, Charles (Charlie) Davis was the youngest of 12 children born to Tama (Tamry, Tamar) Cheney and Tom (Thomas) Davis in Monroe Co., GA. Tama died during his birth (10/12/1893). Nothing is known of her other than that the 1870 U.S. Census reported her age to be 23 which means that she was born in 1847. She and the family are also listed in the 1880 census. She and Tom named their 3rd child Randal (Rondal, b. 1868) Family oral history reports his name was actually Randal.

My dad and the only two siblings of his that I knew died when I was a child. There were at at least two Cheney slave-holders in Monroe County and a freedman named Randal (Rondal) Cheney with a wife and 6 children listed in the 1870 census. Many Cheney men registered their employment by A. (Aquilla) Cheney with the Monroe County tax office in 1865. Several Cheney men registered to vote with my grandfather in 1867.

Any help or suggestions that you may have would be greatly appreciated. My direct email address is
