John Taylor Bruce

I'm trying to find any information about John Taylor Bruce, my great grandfather. Here's what I know about him:

His name was John Taylor Bruce. He married Martha Elizabeth Roberts in Fulton County, Georgia on 25 November, 1883. Martha died in 1888 nine months after giving birth to my grandfather, Daniel Robert Bruce in 1887, and her husband, John Taylor Bruce, disappeared shortly thereafter. My grandfather was raised from infancy by Martha's brother and older sister.(all of this part is fact)

According to my grandmother, John Taylor Bruce was about 47 years old at time of marriage to Martha, which would mean he was born in 1836-1837 or thereabouts. There is a John Taylor Bruce who was born in 1837 listed in the 1850 census information for Macomb-Bruce Township, Michigan, but I have been unable to connect this Michigan listing with my family in Georgia. The 1840 and 1850 Michigan census listings are the only John Taylor Bruce I have been able to find using Google. And, from the 1840 and 1850 Michigan census listing that I found, I can't tell if his last name was Bruce, or if he was John Taylor from Bruce, Macomb, Michigan.

Any information about John Taylor Bruce, either in Georgia or Michigan or anywhere else, would be appreciated. Until I can find definitive information about him (parents), I can't research my lineage beyond him.

Thanks for any help, Dan Bruce
