Jackson Harry Rauls, possibly from Savannah, born c 1895

I am trying to find information on Jackson Harry Rauls who stated on his SS application that he was born in 1895 in Savannah, GA. He is not listed in the birth records in Chatham County in the 1890s. (There are not many births recorded.) On the SS application he listed his father's name as Melvin and his mother's name as "unknown." He had said he was from Charleston, so I'm not sure where to look for more information. On his marriage application he lists his mother as "Ida La Beech."
He married a Minnesotan when living in Great Falls, Montana. They eventually settled in Eau Claire, WI. I believe he moved to Columbus, OH in about 1952. There he is listed as living with Ollie Rauls, who is listed as his wife on his death certificate. His first (?) wife survived him, so if it is the same person I hope he got a divorce. His second (?) wife died in 1981 in AZ. His death certificate lists his father's name as John and his mother as "Ida (last name unknown)" His burial record lists a daughter, Jean Overturf. That is something of a puzzle as well.
He told folks he had been a pilot in WW1. (Flying Jenny pilot, I think.)
Any ideas or leads? This guy is a complete mystery to me and neither of his children were of any help.
