Found in the Lumpkin County Reunion of Civil War Veterans Burns
Sons of Malachi & Margaret Burns All of the Burns boys served in the Civil War. Robert Burns (who rose to Captain in 1865) and George Burns enlisted in Co. H of the 1st Georgia Infantry on July 24, 1861, and Henry and Cornelius Burns enlisted in the 52nd Georgia Infantry. Henry Burns perished during the war, killed at Baker Creek, Mississippi on May 16, 1863. George Burns was wounded several times but survived the war. The Burns brothers returned to Daholnega after the war, where they married, rased families and worked as miners and farmers.
