I cannot find my Great Grandfather (Joseph Ray) past 1900 when he was already married to my Great Grandmother, Abscilla "Abbie" Mincey Ray in Bulloch Co, GA (Statesboro). I have mostly found him listed as Joseph R. Ray, but his son Frank’s son (Frank, Jr. of Savannah, GA) said he was told it was Joseph G. Ray. He died in Savannah, Chatham Co, GA. His death certificate gave his parent's names as "Unknown". My grandfather was Lonnie Austin Ray. Joe and Abbie also had sons John Lorin, Homer E., Joseph Jr., and Arthur. Frank, Jr. told me his father said Joe had told him that he was an orphan who was raised by a Mincey family, but I have never found any proof of this. According to his tombstone he was born Sep 16, 1867 (his death certificate says in Screven Co, GA) and he died Aug 05, 1929. He and Abbie are both buried in Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, GA. I've never been able to find him in the 1870 or the 1880 census. I would really love some help to get through this brick wall. Joseph & Abscilla "Abbie" Mincey married Oct 18, 1888 in Bulloch Co, GA. Abbie was the daughter of Augustus "Gus" Marion Mincey & Mary Elizabeth Hendricks Mincey. She was born Jul 22, 1866 in Bulloch Co, GA. I don't know if this is ANY connection or not, but Augustus "Gus" Marion Mincey had an uncle named Shadrick Shadrack 'Shade' Mincey (wife Mary Waters Mincey) who had a daughter named Virginia. She married a man named James Ray. There is a photo in the Screven County Library (Silvania) in a book about the Mincey family by David L. Mincey (now deceased). David said on the back of the original photo is says "Jas Ray, having been absent from the home 21 years, is in the group. The young lady behind him is his daughter). Virginia is also in the photo which was taken Sept 3, 1904. I have no idea if this is connected in any way. Notify Administrator about this message?
