Susannah Bates married James Johnson of Oglethorpe Co., GA.
Susannah Bates was daughter of David Bates and wife
Ducille Echols.

David Bates was born in Halifax Co., VA, and he died
in Wilkes Co., GA in 1810. He was a state legislator in
both Virginia and Georgia.

David Bates was 7th generation Bates, a descendant of
immigrant John Bates (1598-1666), who arrived in Virginia
in the winter of 1623/4 on the ship Southampton.

Immigrant John Bates (1598-1666) was a "FFV," by
Order of the First Families of Virginia
