Dorothy,
Have you seen Elza Moody's census records for 1910 and 1920?They support part of your story anyway.
In 1920, they were in Collins, Tattnall Co., GA (p. 243):
Moody, Elza P., 42
wife Sarah E., 48
daughter Sallie J., 15
son Lewis P., 22
daughter-in-law Willie Joe, 15
All born in GA, parents of everyone also.Everyone listed as W (white).
In 1910, the family was living in Madray, Wayne Co., GA (p. 284):
Elza P. Moody, 32, 2nd marriage, married 9 years
wife Sallie, 38, 1st marriage, married 9 years, 2 of 2 children living
son Lewis P., 11
daughter Sallie J., 6
mother Jane, 72, widow, 7 of 7 children living
nephew Horace E. Lewis, 17
Again, all born in GA, parents too.Again, all white folk.
Looking at these records, you actually get the impression that Lewis/Louis P. Moody was the son of Elza and a first wife. In 1910, Elza and Sallie had been married 9 years, but Lewis was 11.It was recorded then that he was married twice and Sarah/Sallie E. just once. What is interesting is that in 1910, the family had Elza's mother [Rebecca] Jane (72) living with them, and a young nephew, Horace E. Lewis. It sounds as if Lewis was a family name connected to the Moodys.
I found Elza P. Moody in 1880 incorrectly indexed as "Eliza," although the name is clearly Elza on the original paper. He appears to have been the baby of the family:
401 Militia Dist., Tattnall Co., GA (p. 483):
Moody, Rebecca J., 42
son Hiram S., 25
son Miles M., 16
son Elza P., 2
In 1900, R. J. Moody, 63, was still living with her son Miles in Tattnall Co.I can't find Elza in 1900, unfortunately, or Amanda or her daughter in 1880.Maybe someone else can.
