Thank you for responding. Yes, we have George Washington Tippens death certificate but, as fate would have it. The physician's handwriting was, of course, aweful. This is where we get the hopeful maiden name of Germaine. This is what a handwriting expert felt the name was. It definitely starts with a "G" and possible goes to "er" but the rest of the name is illegible. I would be happy to forward a scanned copy to you for you to look over. Any other suggestions, as to the name would be greatly appreciated. We do know that Thompson's father was George Tippen. They all lived in Cherokee County Georgia, apparently winning a parcel of land through the Georgia Land Lottery. I have also felt that if Thompson was too young to have married before coming to Georgia from S.C. then his first wife most likely lived right in their area. Since they did not travel far she would have had to be nearby in the census. We have also looked at the children being named after Grandparents. Alsey is one name that is rare and we are trying to find all Alsey's in the area. It is hard because I do not live in Georgia and do not have access to all of the census online. Any help is truly appreciated.

Sheral
