I am researching the SANDIFORD line on my father's maternal side and would be interested in any and all info, leads, etc.
***1800*** Census
James Henry SANDIFORD secured (1790) several grants totaling 800 acres near the present Bamberg County.
***1810***
By 1810,James Sandiford, the father, had died leaving wife, Elizabeth, as the head of the household and living on St. Helena Island. Children: know children at the time of my research were (son) Janes Henry Sandiford [1795-1868] , (dau) Martha
***1818***
On May 1, 1818, James Henry SANDIFORD married Eugenia Perry [d/o Joseph J. and Jane Perry], on St. Helena Island.
***1820*** Census
The Sandifords were living on John's Island at the time of the 1820 census.
***1830***
By 1830,James Henry Sandiford and family (James Henry and 1st wife, Eugenia Perry [1789-1830] had moved to St. Helena and is listed as a farmer with two slaves. (property was eventually sold in 1848 {http://web.ukonline.co.uk/bean95/ft/frippus/links/plantations.htm#20
38        Dr. William Jenkins        The Sandiford Place        600 )
***1840*** Census (Chatam County, GA)
The James Henry Sandiford family showed up in Georgia. The census lists James H. Sandiford there wth his 2nd wife, Sarah Margaret Perry, and three of his children, Anne, William, and Martha. Among the five men named in the household, evidently boarders, was Daniel Proctor. Daniel Proctor eventually married [abt 1853] the oldest of James Henry and Sarah Margaret (Perry) Sandiford's daughters, Anne [1931-1873]. They had 9 children.
***1850*** Census
Sometime in the 1850s, the Sandiford family moved to property located on Dark Entry Creek near St. Mary's. The 1860 census shows William and Martha still living at home. The older daughter, Anne Eugenia and her husband, D. R. Proctor, also owned a home here. The Dark Entry property is now timberland and no sign of the home remains.
***1868***
John Henry SANDIFORD died January 2, 1868, and his wife died May 3, 1877. They are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.
