Major Jacob Wood planted Sugar cane on his Potosi plantation immediately west of darien on cathead Creek Ca. 1807-30.Cathead Creek flows into the darien River. In 1820 Darien was divided into four sections: Cat Head,McIntosh Town, Darien proper, and Clapboard (a community for free Negroes ). Reuben King, a Connecticut yankee, operated his Tannery at Cathead. On lower Cathead Creek was the Upper Mill, Darien's second large sawmill.
