Trying to locate Joshua Parker Whitaker's parents. Family states that in 1876 they were living in Jefferson County, Georgia. My understanding is that they lived in between US Hwy 221 and US Hwy 1 on what is now Fort Gordon area.
I do know that Joshua had one brother named Billy (?William). I also was told that Joshua and Billy were raise by different families after 1876. I did find Joshua P. Whitaker living with William Harrison Reeves in the 1880 census in Dearing,McDuffie County, Georgia as his adopted son. I also found a William Whittaker living with a Susan Ward as her grandson in the 1880 census in Jefferson County, Georgia.
It has been told that Josh and Billy's mother was Creek Indian and that she murdered their father in 1876. I was also given some information from the Mt. Moriah minutes: "Joshua P. Whitaker murdered by his wife 1st and 21st June 1876" but cannot find the minutes anywhere now.
I know of only one Mt Moriah and that is Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church in Matthews, Georgia.
I would appreciate any help with this as I have come upon a very big brick wall.
