Old dam in east Madison County

I've become privy to the location of an old stone dam on some land near East Paoli Rd. I reckon it to be at least 1900's vintage. It's on an unnamed tributary of Holly Creek. Does anyone have any suggestions about who might have built the dam, when it was built, and for what purpose (grist mill pond is my top pick)?
