Hi,
I'm currently at a brick wall regarding the Gilbert line, which is stalled going back to Madison County. I've contacted a few people on here privately, but wanted to create a public post. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I'm stuck with my GGG-Grandfather, William Crawford Gilbert. He was born 13-Apr-1820 in Madison County. We have no clue who his father was, except possible guesses with the census. He married Tylitha Emily Hampton in Madison County on 20-Dec-1842.
Tylitha's parents were David Hiram Hampton and Reason Meadows. Tylitha, I believe, was born in Madison County, in 26-Jun-1821.
At some point, estimated around 1850, William Crawford, Tylitha, and children migrated to Lafayette County, Mississippi, and set up shop near Abbeville. Some of Tylitha's siblings were already there.
The 1850 census has Tylitha's brother George, and sister Sarah West, living in Lafayette County. George's youngest child, Pinkney, was born in Mississippi around 1844. Pinkney's older sibling, Mary, was born in Georgia in 1842.
Back to the Gilbert family. William Crawford and Tylitha's children who were born in Georgia were: Augustus H. (1844), Reason Meadows (1845), George Henry (1848), and William Henry (1850). The next child, Susannah, was born in 1852 in Lafayette County.
I do know that Tylitha's parents eventually migrated to Cave Spring, Georgia, and died there.
I will hopefully get to head out to Georgia within the next few months to do some courthouse research, but if anyone has any info on William Crawford Gilbert, and who his parents were, it will be greatly appreciated if you can let me know.
