I am seeking any information on the Odell family of Lumpkin County, Georgia. My gg-grandmother, Sarah Odell was born 30 NOV 1822 in South Carolina and died 18 MAY 1908
Edgewood, Van Zandt Co., Tx. She married Joseph Berry Wade in Auraria 6 March 1839 and they and their children lived in Auraria until 1869 when they moved to Texas. Family legend is that the Odell family was a family of giants and with great strength. It was said that one of Sarah's brothers was a blacksmith in the Dahlonega area about that time and could bend a horse shoe with his own hands! Anyway, I have never been able to locate any Odells in the area and wonder if the family Bible made a mistake and the name was O'Barr instead of Odell as tere are numerous O'Barr families in Lumpkin at the time. Has anyone come across any Odell families?
