Here is some information I have on William Benjamin Franklin Townsend:

-his grandmother was Orphy C Hester; I don't know his parents names
-born July 12, 1855 died June 1934
-held offices of Constable, City Marshal, Justice of the Peace, Tax Collector, Mayor, Ordinary of Lumpkin County since 1916, President of the Bank of Dahlonega, owner of the Dahlonega Nugget
-began as Editor of the Dahlonega Nugget in 1897 and lasted until his death in 1934
-From Heritage of Lumpkin County, Georgia 1832-1996 pg 8 "Captain F. W. Hall (owner of the Dahlonega Nugget) asked a young man named William Benjamin Franklin Townsend to lease and edit the Nugget for a year. When his lease expired, Townsend purchased the newspaper and was out of debt within two years. W.B. Townsend had little education but was remarkably perceptive and skillful with words if not with grammar and punctuation. He told the news as he saw it, and his pithy comments were soon being reprinted in magazines and newspapers all over the country. Editor Townsend composed his thoughts while setting type, and he never proof-read what he wrote. "If you see a typographical error in the Nugget, don't stop to criticize the editor," he once wrote. "It won't hurt you or do you any harm." Townsend published the 4-page weekly newpaper until a few days before his death in 1934 at age 76. Although the local population at that time was 1,000, the Dahlonega Nugget had 2,000 subscribers. "
-married Rachel Rebecca Walker on December 27, 1874

I have more information on Orphy C. Hester, Rachel Rebecca Walker, and their children and other descendents. Let me know if you would be interested in more information.
