I am trying to locate information on a Daniel McLeod
b between 1828 - 1832. He married Sarah Ann Alderman abt 1849 in Lowndes/Brooks County Ga.
Children of Daniel and Sarah:
Redding Woodman McLeod
George Franklin McLeod
Laura Virginia McLeod
Sarah and the children moved to Lake Butler Fl abt 1865. They are listed in the 1870 census in Bradford County Fl. Daniel is not listed in any census.
Sarah and the Children were living with her father George Alderman in the 1860 Brooks County Ga Census Tallokas P.O.; Series: M653 Roll: 112 Page: 691Sarah McLeod died in 1905 and is buried at Elzey Chapel in Bradford County
Fl. Her grave stone reads wife of Daniel.
Laura Virginia McLeod married Wesley Douglas (s)
Redding McLeod married Elizabeth Jane Harrison
George McLeod married Sarah Missouri Douglas
The only rumor information we have on Daniel is:
1 Born or lived in Quitman GA.
2 Other name mentioned is John.
3 Cousin of McRae's
4 Got into trouble along with his cousin (McRae) in the 1850's, possible murder of a man by the name of David Smithwick. Had to do with tax's. Daniel's father in law was a tax collector. Daniel was rumored to have left
GA and fled to Fl. When Sarah and the children arrived he had moved further south and she refused to move again. He returned only once to see the children and gave them a dollar each and left never to be heard from again.
5 Remarried a lady who owned an orange grove in central Florida.
6 Family came from NC.
7 Family came from Isle of Sky (much like all McLeod's)
8 Came from the McLeod's of Harris (now I can't remember if it was Lewis
