Christine, perhaps then there there were more than two John Martins. I can trace one John Martin son of James Martin of Colleton County Soutn Carolina who with his family and Gibbons brother in Laws migrated to Georgia with the Dorchester Society in 1752.
John was active in the Sunbury area and was a member of the Midway congregation. His wife was Elizbeth Donnom. As his widow she became the second wife of Dr. Nathan Bronson/Brownson who briefly served as one of Georgia's Colonial Govenors. Below is a family record of James Martins descendats which include John Martin of Sunbury. So far I have found no link between Clement and Martin Martin of Rhode Island, but I suspect that the Martins and the Bronson/Brownsons are connected and they tied into the Dorchester group because of the New England ancestry of so many of their members.
