Peter N. RAYNAL - Civil War Veteran

Have located the grave marker for a Peter N. RAYNAL in the Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte, NC (Mecklenburg County). His marker says he was a Lt. in Co A, 18th GA Infantry. He was from France and his real name was Pierre Napoleon RAYNAL, born in Ste-Marie-Aux-Mines, Alsace. Birthdate was May 15, 1834 and he died October 29, 1908 in Charlotte, NC.

His wife is buried next to him and her name was Rebecka Ann PINKNEY, daughter of William Pinkney GIRARDEAU. She was born in Liberty County, June 8, 1841 and died in Statesville, NC (Iredell County) on June 21, 1920.

Not sure how this RAYNAL got to Liberty County or their connections to the GIRARDEAU families, but since I have ancestors (WELLS & GROOVER) from that area, it caught my eye while wandering thru the cemetery with my daughter. Have photos (.jpeg file) of both grave markers if descendants want a copy.
