Doebroity?

In the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Laurens Co. there is a John Stevens with wife Elizabeth Doebroity. I cannot find the name Doebroity anwhere else. Does anyone know of a Laurens Co. surname that sounds anything like that? Maybe the name was misspelled on the census, or maybe the census taker just spelled it the way it sounded. Would appreciate any ideas anyone has as to what other name it could be. I am researching John Henry Morgan Stevens/Stephens who lived in Laurens Co., and am looking at the possibility that this coupl coudl be his parents.
