For years all I knew was that my William J. Brooks was born in Georgia in 1832. He married in Troup County in 1854.
Later I found Hiram Brooks who married Elizabeth Jackson in 1831 in Jasper County. On the 1850 Jasper census, Hiram and his second wife Caroline listed the Brooks children with almost the same names as my William J. They could certainly be namesakes.
More recently I found William J.'s CSA registration. He enlisted in LaGrange, Troup County and was born in Jones County in 1832. I wanted to give up until a good researcher found Hiram paying taxes in Jones County in 1834. He also sold two parcels in Troup in 1836, but never moved there;however, his Uncle Bevin Brooks did live there. There are other clues tying William to Hiram, but I have no documented proof. I do not know of another descendant in Hiram's family that has completed a DNA test. If you are linked, please speak up.
