Thanks Ann. I was wondering if someone could direct me to finding now what was "Sleepy Holly" while John lived on his father's plantation. "Old Clinton" is so small that I have problems conceiving of its possible location.
John was the father of my malutto gg-grandmother, Lizzie Hardeman. His father, Robert Vines, was the father of Blanton Hardeman, a "free man of color" and bootmaker in Clinton. His son, Hobson Hardeman, was a well respected citizen of Clinton during the early to mid 1900s.
