Wendy-

I have not connected William S MARSHALL, to parents but do have details. The death cert for his son Thomas Henry MARSHALL (22 Jul 1846, Jefferson-27 Apr 1921, Washington) says his father's full name was William Shaw MARSHALL. The maiden name of his mother is undecipherable {the death cert image is online in the Georgia Virtual Vault}.

Jefferson Co marriage records show that a William MARSHALL wed Esther GORDO(A)N on 27 Jan 1819. The records were transcribed at an unknown time, by unknown individuals, and I do not know where the originals are. BUT the transcription for the license reads "William J Marshall", while the record for the actual marriage reads "William S Marshall".

No corresponding William MARSHALL shows up in Jefferson in 1820, 1830 or 1840. But on 1820 and 1830 Burke Co and 1840 Jones Co-- there is a William S MARSHALL of the same age as the William S MARSHALL of Jefferson in 1850 and 1860 and Washington 1870--the one married to Beedy/Bedie/Bedia.

The wife in the earlier censuses (1820/1830/1840) is 12 to 15 years older than Beedy/Bedie/Bedia of the later censuses (1850/1860/1870). Beedy/Bedie/Bedia is enumerated on the 1880 Washington Co census in the household of her and William's son Thomas Henry.

It appears that children by William's first marriage to Esther GORDO(A)N are: Ann (1823-1905, mrd William WEST; Nancy (1826-1908, mrd John Peter GIBSON-MY LINE); William J (1827/30-1863, mrd Vianna TARVER) and a Joseph (1833-1839, no marriages located).

Children by William's second marriage to Beedy/Bedie/Bedia [maiden name unknown] were: Elizabeth (1839-aft 1860--Maybe from first marriage); Charles S (1841-Apr 1865); Thomas Henry (1846-1921, mrd Dora DUKES); Sarah C (1848-aft 1860); John Wood (1853-1929, mrd Harriet/Henrietta BEDGOOD).

Would love to share any additional info on this group and have any confirming details you might be able to provide.
