I am a 7th generation descendent of James Augustus Williams and I have searched for his grave several times. I have narrowed down the general location but have not found the exact site. I know that he was buried on the west side of Duharts Creek in Jefferson County, GA. The site is located just off of Brooks Road, which is the first road to the right, just west of Duharts Creek, between Stapleton and Avera, GA. The site is planted in pines and old growth hardwoods and portions of it is very thick making it difficult to search.
I have researched and comiled an extensive family history back to James Augustus Williams and his two brothers, John B. and Miles. I have found that they came from England shortly after the Revolutionary War and arrived in Virginia. From Virginia they moved to North Carolina and later to Georgia. They were each granted 500 acres of land in what is now Jefferson County, GA. At some point, John B. and Miles Williams sold their land to James Augustus Williams and moved. I have not been able to find any more info on them. I have a copy of James Augustus Williams last will.
