Thanks Jan, for all the Lowery info. I have wondered if the Lowerys were part and parcel of the mass migration from County Down, Ireland, in the latter part of 18th century. The area of Jefferson CO was mostly Irish immigrants who intermarried: the Peels, Gambles, Mountains, Whighams, Bothwells, Vinings, Flemings, Ingrams. And others. I don't know if they came directly to Jeff CO thru Savannah or if some slipped in from SC, which was so close it makes me think all the Gambles are related, as well.

I don't know that Charles M Gamble's middle name is McGill...I have read that it was but have seen no proof. Someone else had claimed it stood for "Moore", as the McGills had Moore as an ancestor. Supposedly there is a will or estate record of John Gamble's but I have not found it yet. It would be rather odd, too...if Rachel Lowery Gamble (the 2nd wife) would be willing to honor her new baby son with the dead wife's last name, unless, as you stated, they might be related.

I peeked and found that you are from the Huttos in GA. I don't know a lot about the early GA Huttos, one was a Rev War soldier. I have wondered if they migrated with the rest of the Huttos who ended up in Henry CO, AL (not far away--my group). The Huttos are extremely difficult to research in the 18th century, as there are almost no records.

I did have a link to a book that referenced early Jeff CO and Queensboro residents. I will look for it again. Seems as if it was on the Jeff Co genweb site. I never bought it but considered it.

At any rate, I need to do more research..take care!
