More About Mary "Polly" Peacock:
Name 2: Polly Peacock
Date born 2: 1814

Notes for Andrew J. Weldon, Sr.:
Proofs: Marriage record and 1850 Harris Co., Ga. census proves lineage. Andrew is livihg next door to his father and is later adminisrator of his father's estate. No Will found.

Andrew and Mary "Polly" can be found in Troup County, Ga. on 1880 census, p. 23/129/22/4- Dist. 699       O'Neal Mills in Household No. 144. Their ages are totally incorrect. He is listed as a Farmer, age 78 (b.1802). This census says he was born in Ga. and both of his parents were born in Virginia (?). Polly was age 75, b. 1805 born in Georgia with both of her parents born in Georgia. In the same house is a male named Asbury, age 24, born 1856 Asbury is their youngest son as proven by his descendants. Polly's age is wrong. We do not know where Andrew and Polly were buried. The three counties, Harris, Troup (Ga), and Chambers Co., AL are all close together. It seems that Andrew moved to Chambers County and then moved to Troup County, Ga. The information on the 1880 census is all wrong. Asberry's age should have been shown as 28 and the parents of Andrew J. were not born in Virginia.

Living next door to them on the 1880 Troup County census is their son Willis Weldon (House No. 143). He is listed as a farmer. age 44, b. 1836 Ga., Nancy his wife is listed as 37, b. 1843 Georgia - see their Group Sheet for children).

Andrew and Mary "Polly " did not come to Chambers County until after 1850. Andrew it seems owned farms both in Harris County, Ga. and Chambers Co., Al. At least five of their children married into families that were in Chambers County before 1850, for example the Ennis and Yarborough families.
Andrew is living next door to his father Moses on the 1850 Harris Co., Ga. census. Andrew can be found on the 1860 Chambers Co., Al. census as follows:

Andrew Weldon, Sr., age 47
Mary, age 48
Andrew, Jr. age 17
Minerva Elizabeth, age 12
Lucy, age 10
Lithi, age 8
James Daniel, age 6
Asberry, age 4

1870 Harris Co., Ga. census:
Andrew Weldon, Sr., age 58
Mary, age 48 (this age is incorrect)
Lithi, age 19
James Daniel, age 14
Asberry, age 12

1880 Troup Co., Ga census reads:
A.J.Weldon, age 78 Farmer, b. VA, parents b. VA
Polly Weldon, age 75, b.Ga. parents b. GA
Asbury Weldon, age 24, b. GA

Andrew was in Thornton's Home Guards during the Civil War in Muscogee Co., GA.

More About Andrew Weldon and Mary Peacock:
Marriage: 13 Jan 1833, Jasper Co., Ga.
Children of Mary Peacock and Andrew Weldon are:
11       i.       Jonathan4 Weldon, born Aug 1834 in Harris County, Georgia; died 20 Apr 1907 in Tallapoosa Co., Alabama. He married (1) Elizabeth Watson 31 Dec 1851 in Harris County, Georgia; born 1834 in Ga.. He married (2) Useba Yarbrough 18 Aug 1881 in Chambers Co. Alabama; born 01 Jan 1849 in Chambers Co. Alabama; died 10 Nov 1924 in Wellston, Oklahoma.

Notes for Jonathan Weldon:
Found on same1860 Chambers Co., Al. census page with Andrew Weldon, Sr. is Jonathon Weldon, age 26 and wife Elizabeth, age 25 with son Andrew, age 6.

The 1900 Chambers Co., AL census reads:
Jonathan Weldon, age 66
Seeby (Useba Yarborough), age 50
Lula, age 15
Harriet, age 14
Anna Pearl, age 12
Useba's daughter Carrie (by another man) evidently was married or living with relatives.

Jonathan was a Private in the 47th Ala.Inf. Co. I while serving in the Civil War. He was wounded and drew a Civil War Pension.

After Jonathon's death in 1907 Useba made her home with Anna Pearl and Jackson C. Smith, grandparents of Keith Smith Fudge. E-mail:
Keitha Fudge 7204 Greenmeadow Lane, Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma 73132 Email:

Keitha states that her gr. grandmother Useba Yarbrough Weldon is buried in her family's cemetery lot at Harrah, Okla. She states that her mother seemed to be her grandmolther Useba's favorite grandchild. If Useba married before she married Jonathon Weldon then the 1880 Chambers County census should have shown Carrie's last name as Pinkerton. On the 1880 census Useba is still in the house of her parents.

Marriage: 31 Dec 1851, Harris County, Georgia
Notes for Useba Yarbrough:
Useba married at the home of her parents, P.M. Rowland Minister of Gospel.

12       ii.       William R. Weldon, born 1835 in Harris County, Georgia; died Bet. 1861 - 1865 in Civil War.
Notes for William R. Weldon:
Found on 1850 census only. No other info. available on him.
Harris County Georgia Civil War Units were:
Harris 17th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company H, Harris Bartows
Harris 20th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company E, Whitesville Union Volunteers
Harris 31st Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company H, Mountain Tigers
Harris 35th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company K, Harris Guards
Harris 46th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company E, Harris Blues
Many men from Harris County, Ga. either signed up in nearby Alabama units or Muscogee Co., Ga. units.

There were six William Weldon's that served in the Civil War from Ga. This compiler believes this William served and never returned.
13       iii.       Willis A. Weldon, born 16 Dec 1836 in Harris County, Ga.; died 15 Feb 1907 in Chambers County, Alabama. He married Nancy M. Weldon 10 Apr 1858 in Harris County, Georgia; born Jan 1841 in Georgia; died Jun 1930 in Chambers County, Alabama.

Notes for Willis A. Weldon:
Source: 1850 Harris County, Ga. census, 1860 Chambers County, Ga. census, 1880 Chambers Co., Ga. census and 1900 Chambers County, Ga. census.
Proofs: 1850 census proves lineage. Have marriage license. Tombstone Record from Chambers Co., Ala
Source: Family Bible of Nancy Annie Ennis Bell in possession of Granddaughter Patricia Dove, Decatur, Ala.

It appears from the censuses of Harris County, Ga. and from the Marriage Record of this couple that they were cousins.

The 1860 Chambers Co., Ala. census reads as follows:

Willis Weldon, age 22
Nancy, age 19
Mary, age 1

Tombstone in Chambers County (Macadonia Church Cemetery) shows date of birth for Willis A. Weldon as December 16, 1836 and death date. There is a cement slab next to his with no name. This is probaby his wife Nancy.

In 1880 Willis and his family were living next door to his parents in Troup County, Ga. Evidently, he moved back to Chambers County, Al. before he died.

The 1880 Troup Co., Ga. census (O'Neals Mill), FHL Film 1254167, Natl.AR.Film T9-0167, page 608B reads as follows:

Marriage Notes for Willis Weldon and Nancy Weldon:
The marriage license of Willis Weldon reads wife 'Nancy Weldon". Your compiler has questioned this and it seems highly probable that Willis and Nancy were second cousins. On the 1850 census of Harris County, Ga. they are shown living almost next door to each other. It seems that Nancy was the daughter of Thomas Weldon. The age is correct according to the 1860 Chambers County census. Thomas is the same age as Andrew and is probably a cousin. Nancy is not in the house with Thomas, her father, in the 1860 Harris County census.
