I am not related to this Pope but thought someone might be interested in this information.
My husband hunts ( deer & turkey) in the National Forest area near Oconee which is in Jasper County. While hunting a few months ago, he came across a grave yard that has about 6 or seven graves. The only one that had anything legible was that of a William N or H Pope b. 1819 and died 1898. There were several graves along side of him and one behind him. It is in an isolated area about 500 yards from a dirt road. The grave site is very grown over with brush, but since alot of the green stuff had not started to come back it is easily visible. Once the spring and summer gets here it may not be as visible.
If anyone is interested, I can try and go back to make some pictures. It is a shame that this grave site is neglected but apparently no one knows about it!
