Trying to find any information on a Mrs. John Mad(d)ox nee Crow/e who lived in or around Commerce, Georgia, in 1913. A marriage record with her given name would be most helpful. When her brother, Stephen Crowe died in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, in 1913, the funeral home card listed a sister, Mrs. John Madox of Commerce, Georgia. The information is typed, but the letters are "fuzzy." That is what it looks like. Also a brother, Henry Crowe of Atlanta, Georgia.
Stephen Crowe and most of his family are buried in West View Cemetery in Augusta. Their sister, Amanda Crowe Toole, and her husband P. C. Toole are buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta.
A presumed brother, Henderson Crow/e married in Clarke County, Georgia, in 1890. Later census information on him is somewhat scrambled.
Their parents, James Crow/e and Frances Mary Ann Allen, married in Clarke County, Georgia, in 1846. The family is in Clarke County in 1850 and 1860 and in Greene County in 1870 & 1880. They did mill type work rather than farmed. Trying to find out what happened to the rest of their children besides Amanda and Stephen and to determine the parentage of this James Crow/e. The family pretty much disappeared after the 1880 census.
