Elijah Hunter married Penelopy Cox in Telfair Co. on 7/27/1817. Their marriage license is recorded in Marriage Book "A" on page 16A at the courthouse in McRae Ga.

Hardy E. Hunter was a son of Elijah and Penelopy. (see 1850 Irwin Co. census, family # 89)

Elijah and Penelopy moved from Telfair Co. to the newly created Irwin Co.

I agree that duplicate names are confusing. There were two Elijah Hunter's in very early Irwin Co. The other one was Elijah A. Hunter. This one was the 2nd husband of my GGG grandmother, Rebecca(Williams)Hunter. They married in Irwin Co. in 1837.

Some Irwin Co. researchers of Elijah Hunter (h/o Penelopy) have confused the two, thinking that Elijah Hunter(h/o Penelopy) was Elijah A. Hunter.
