Bear Creek had been incorporated in 1872, but in 1873 it was renamed Hampton, according to Miss Emily Griffin, who wrote "Hampton and Her History" in 1921 for the Henry County, Georgia, 100 years celebration.

Bear Creek is in Henry County on 1839 map by David H. Burr "Map of Georgia & Alabama", I just viewed a copy online in the David Rumsey Historical Map Collection http://www.davidrumsey.com/ .
