Since Dora Herring Willis's father William Handy Herring's death certificate showed his parents as Jessie Herring and Millie Whitworth, both born SC, I looked at the 1880 census for Abbeville Co., Fork District, and found Jessie Herring, age 55, born in SC, parents born in SC, with wife Milly, age 54, self and parents born in SC, with children Martha R., age 30, Derias M., age 24, Lucinda, age 15, and Mary, age 13. The 1860 census of Pickens Co., SC, Regiment two district, has Jesse Herring, age 32, farmer, wife Milly, age 32, with children Hiram A. G.(or J), age 16, Martha R. G.(or J), age 11, Charles R.A., age 10, Robert M., age 4, and William H. P., age 2. [This William H.P. is probably William Handy Herring]. Also living next door to them was C. H. Whitworth, age 70, born in SC, wife Rebecca, age 67, born in VA, with children Mary H., 30, James, 24, Lucinda, 22, Martha, 7, Mary E., 5, and John D., age 4 [the last three probably grandchildren.] Milly Whitworth Herring was probably the daughter of C. H. and Rebecca Whitworth.
