This is how I would interpret this:

Joe Reed married Elizabeth Smith in 1846. They had a daughter, Nancy Ann, born in 1847. Elizabeth died. Joe was living with the Smith family (Elizabeth's parents) in 1850, while his daughter, for whatever reason, is living 29 households away with Nancy Marett (which is really not so far away, considering there were 1180 households in the district). Joe marries Susan Rush in 1852. Nancy Ann remains with Nancy Marett.

In the 1860 Census, there is no sign of Susan Rush Reed. Joe is boarding with the James Allen family in Hartwell and working as a mechanic. Nancy Ann is living with Nancy Marett. Mary Smith, Nancy Ann's aunt, is living with Nancy Marett also. A Milly Reed, age 5, along with three older Rush children, are living with William Hunt in the Oak Bower community of Hart Co.

Could Milly be the daughter of Joe and Susan? Are the Rush children Susan's children by a previous marriage? Or could they be cousins?

Hope this has answered some of your questions. Good Luck.

Bobbie
