Luke White married Mrs Mary Mewborne, widow of Thomas in Edgecombe county Nc about 1784. Luke came to Elbert county between 1790 and 1792.Mary had son Archibald Mewborne.Children of Luke and Mary were:Stephen White Dec 24,1785- 1873;Obedience Nov 29,1787-after 1880;Sarah July 27,1790-?;Winney July 5,1793-?;John Aug 6,1794-?; Martha May 2,1795-?;Zackery? July 9,1797-?;Mary Aug 19,1799-?;Martin Mar 27,1803-1889;Nancy July 25,1806-?;Luke Oct 21,1808-?.Luke Sr.died in 1837 in Elbert co,his wife died probably before 1830.Martin White did marry Anna Burden. She was the daughter of Wm Burden and Clary Sheppard. Wm was the son of Archibald Burden and Hannah ? Goad. Hannah may have been married before she married Archibald.Obedience was my 3rd great-grandmother. She married James Jordan in 1807 in Elbert county.Three of their children married Burdens.Incidentally, Hart county was formed in 1853 from parts of Elbert and Franklin counties. The Whites lived mostly in the northenwestern part of Elbert, and southern Hart. Most likely Luke and Mary are buried in the Holly Springs Baptist cemetery near Bowman,Ga.We erected a monument for him in that cemetery in 1995. James and Obedience Jordan are also buried there.
We can find no connection between out Whites and the Elbert county family of John Martin White, who may have been from the Mayflower bunch. There was also a third family of Whites in Elbert co. I can make no connection between them.
