I am descended from Stephen Peek and Elizabeth Smith. Stephen's family was from Hartwell, Hart County GA. He is thought to have been born in 1818 in NC, according to my great great grandmothers death certificate. His wife was born in 1822 in South Carolina. He is thought to have died before 1855. Some descendants from this family have stories that he was shot or hung himself and "haunted" the house they lived in.

His wife was a seamstress and moved to Clarke County GA sometime before 1860 when their oldest daughter (my gggrandmother) was married at the age of 12 to a Joseph Benedict.

I believe that he is the son of William, from that son's birthdate of about 1825, to the fact that this is the only Peek family moving from NC to GA.

Do you have any information that could help me?
