In a message I saw, the Rev. Cooper or his secretary, someone, recorded my POWELLs and HASTYs as members, etc. It was an index of my POWELLs, but not my HASTYs in the message.
The message said the "double ss" in the German style was used.
This is intriguing. I understand the Mountain Creek Church was Baptist.
Do you have any information on Rev. Cooper? The makeup of his congregation that might have included Germans?
I did have the two stories that are told of my Hastys at the church, but have mislaid the site. The Hastys were rather rigid in dogma, so I wonder exactly which Baptist denomiation Rev. Cooper led?
Is there a compiled list of those who left the Mountain Creek Baptist Church to establish a new church across the river in Beulah, Chambers/Lee Co., AL? Perhaps a time line? I heard my Hastys and Powells were part of that group and I also heard they left because the Mountain Creek Baptist Church was not strict enough for them.
Were there any HOWARDs in the index? John and Catherine Howard had several children born in GA. One daughter, Laura Ann, married a Hasty in Chambers Co., AL.
I find I flesh the bones better when I have the micro-history of an area and my family's particular interests.
