States: Georgia: Gordon
Since posting the original message we have uncovered additional information about Dr. William Wesley Wall. One of the few houses left standing in Calhoun was Dr. Wall's home. It is now the headquarters for the Gordon County Historical Society. Wall Street in Calhoun was named for him. We have been unable to locate his grave or learn his exact date of death. However, we now know that he died just before the War Between the States (about 1860 or early 1861). We suspect that he may have been buried in Chandler Cemetery in the center of the old section where many markers are missing. His mother would have been buried with him as she died just a few years before he did and she was living with him at the time. If he was buried there, we believe the Yankees must have destroyed portions of the cemetery since the location was an ideal observation point for the valley below. We really would like to learn his date of death and place of burial.
Any assistance or suggestions would be most appreciated.
