James Hewitt and wife Elizabeth Osheal of Gordon County, GA

To whom it may concern:

In 2001 I compiled THE OSHEAL RECORD, THE COLONIAL HISTORY OF THE OSHEAL FAMILY. In the years since that time I have updated and expanded it.

I have often shared many source documents from my research including my transcriptions of typed pages, handwritten pages, and etc. People who have been interested have made inquiries to me at concerning my colonial history and my research.

My ancestors are James Hewitt and Elizabeth Osheal aka Elizabeth O'Shields. She is the daughter of Jethro O'Sheal. Past misinformation has been that one Elizabeth Osheal alias Wooten who married Tyrie Harrison was the daughter of Jethro, but this has been proven false. Elizabeth O'Shields, wife of Tyrie Harrison is the proven daughter of Teresa O'Sheal O'Shields.

I have posted info on these relationships in the past, but a message board posting by its very nature cannot contain all the info and documentation that one has on any family or families.

Although I have shared with descendants, it is my right to decline requests from anyone who I know does not descend from my family, ie the Hewitt, O'Shields, O'Sheal family connection, and in particular to deny requests from anyone who has misused me or my research.

A family member told me "after the scheme that was preyed upon you in 2003, you should be careful with whom you share and decline solicitations to anyone with questionable intentions or who acts abusively."

This wisdom is good advice which I follow. Ive had dealings with most researchers on this board, as well as distant cousins (including descendants of Mary Cotterell) and I have been fairly able to discern intentions whether good or bad, therefore I share with those I choose to, and if I discern something that makes me not share with a particular person, then that is my perogative. Certainly nothing to hide, just an avoidance of those who misuse me or my research. In 2003 I was victimized in a scheme and I cannot see any reason why I would or should respond to any whim or demand they might make upon my research or proof of parentage of Elizabeth Osheal Hewitt, the daughter of Jethro Osheal.
