I just checked back to this site. I can't tell you how nice it is to find someone with useful information on a common ancestor. I will check your message on the Massey site and copy the materials.
The 1860 census of Gordon Co., GA also says that Hugh was born in SC, so there is consistency which means that it might be true. Wish we had some indication about where in SC he came from.
It is interesting that two of Hugh's children, Frances (who I show as marrying a Robert Goodlow Cudd) and Mollie Ann were supposedly born in Macon, Bibb County and not Gordon County where Hugh and Arminta lived.
Let's keep at it and see what we can find. I have been stumped at Hugh for quite a while.
