I am searching for information about Miriam Coleman/Westberry. I put her name this way because there is controversy over which is her last name Coleman, dau. of Asa Coleman and Caroline Strickland or as Westberry, dau. of Rabon Westberry and Caroline (Strickland) Coleman.
Miriam was born August 1874. She is found in the 1880 Wayne county census with her mother Caroline Coleman and 4 siblings.
I find her in the 1900 Glynn county census as Mary L. wife of Richard Washington Bunkley with 5 children
Her last child Susie Mae Bunkley was born in Jan 1907.
I find where Miriam and Richard's son William and daughters Maggie, Carrie and Rita were married in Wayne county from 1906 to 1915. I also found that Richard Washington Bunkley remarried on April 8 1909 Wayne county to Bertie (Sinclair) Wilson.
Richard W. and Bertie appear in Glynn county in the 1920 census with son Robert (by Miriam), Bertie's 3 children by Wilson and Richard/Bertie's 4 children.
I can find no trace of this Bunkley family in the 1910 census. Based on the marriages of Richard and 4 of his children between 1906-1915 in Wayne county, I would assume they were living their. Richard shows up in Brunswick, Glynn county city directories to 1900 then disappears until 1920. Where did he go??
I can find no Miriam Bunkley or Mary L. Bunkley's in Glynn county. I am wondering if Richard and Miriam were divorced sometime between 1907 and 1909.
Miriam is said to be a long time member of the Piney Grove Church of God in Jesup.
I need to find out for sure if Richard and Miriam were divorced and to find out what name Miriam used until her death or was she remarried.
