Julie--Wish I knew more to help you. I really don't have anything on Simpsons. I'm not entirely sure that Elizabeth Barrentine's maiden name was Simpson. I'm going on the theory that it could have been since Jesse and Elizabeth named one of their sons Simpson, since Simpson would otherwise be an unusual first name.
