I have no idea, who he is named after, his nick name is Major... I do know that an old Fayette County researcher said she thought the Mitchells and Morris families came to Fayette County from South Carolina, about the same time, I do know my grandmother Ada Morris is some how connected to the MItchell family... reading from and article on Genreal Marion, the article reads, Francis Marions sisters were older than the General, and no one knew much about them , but it was stated by someone that they were the Grandmothers of the Mitchells and and other family...go to google search and search on General Marion..I selected and article that mentioned a SweetPotato..reason for selecting that particular article was because I knew how fond of Sweet Potatoes my grandma Ada was...General Marion did feed his troops Sweet Potatoes.
I am clue less on James G. but I do think he may have lived or his father over in Coweta County, really have no proff, but I have been told that many from South Carolina came to Coweta County, it was like a stopping off place for many people moving on down south.
