Interested in ancestry of my great-grandfather George Davidson Smith--he was born near Fayetteville, Georgia (per his obituary) on 11 May 1845 and died in Hamilton, Texas 20 May 1932. According to Confederate Pension application he came to Texas when he was seven years of age (about 1852/1853). Family not found in 1850 census, but in 1860 Census of Dallas County TX, Precinct 8, Cedar Hill, he is listed with following persons:
William C Smith, 24, Farmer, Tennessee
Anna, 53, Tennessee
Nancy E, 18, Tennessee
George D, 15, Tennessee
Dyer, 15, Georgia
Jones, 11, Georgia

William Carter Smith, age 24 above was a brother to George D and continued to live in the Cedar Hill/Duncanville area of Dallas County. No information on the remaining family members. George served with the 19th Texas Cavalry during the Civil War and later married Mary Mandana Handy of Johnson County, TX. After living in Ellis County, TX for a time, George and Mary and their children moved to Hamilton County, TX and were there in the 1880 census. Any information on any of the people listed in the 1860 census of Dallas County, TX above would be appreciated. Unable to locate family in either the 1850 censuses of Georgia or Tennessee. I can be contacted directly at
