Sue, my e-mail bounced back (again). AOL said for my ISP to contact them. In the meantime, this is what I have:

I double-checked and my cousin had that my Samuel J. Elrod was born in GA. He also had that he was born about 1862. (However, I found it stated on information listed about his first wife, Amanda Grant, that he was born 1856/57.) My cousin, I'm sure, got a lot of details from my aunt, which she would have gotten from her mother (who was Samuel's daughter).

He died in Morganton GA (or "Loving GA") sometime in the mid 1930's, according to my Dad's recollection. At the time, he was living with his son, Virgil Elrod. He and Lucinda are buried at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Copperhill TN.

He first married Amanda GRant, and it is said that they had about twelve children, and I know none of their names. That marriage came apart, and he then married my great grandmother, Lucinda Fowler, on May 24, 1884, in Floyd Co. GA (they resided in Fannin Co.), and they, too, had twelve children, it is said, although I only have sketchy information on most of them, and I do not remember all of their names, even though, many years ago, my grandmother told me.

All I have on Lucinda Fowler is that she was the daughter of Granville Fowler and Jane Wofford around Floyd Co. GA. I have never been able to find any documentation, other than what my cousin found. Again, I'm sure my grandmother provided my aunt with most of the information, so I believe it's accurate, I just have no proof.

Here's what I do have on some of his children:
Virgil Elrod, b. unk., married a "Hunter". Died 1952.

Effie Anna Elrod, b. April 10, 1897, married James Willis Godfrey. Died May 13, 1983.

Katherine Elrod, no info, possibly died as a young girl.

Mamie Elrod, no info, poss. died young.

Lela Elrod, poss. married George Hawkins. Died unk.

Lizzie Elrod, born 1903. Spouses: 1st: Roy Craig. 2nd: Jim Corn. Died unk.

Calvie Elrod, born 1904, married Elijah Baker. Died April 21, 1969.

Hettie Elrod (my grandmother - and I do remember that she was the last child of Samuel and Lucinda's), born Feb. 6, 1905. Married John Owensby. Died June 8, 1981.

One of Samuel's daughters married a man named "Elijah Hight" (not sure of spelling), but I don't know which, but they lived in Fannin Co., also.

Any help would be most appreciated, Sue.
Thanks,
Mary
