Naming conventions

I am trying to use naming conventions to guesstimate the name of Jesse Brocks father b 1810 in NC who married Depsey Jane Berry and ended up in Fannin county GA.

Their first son Payton would have been named after Jesse's father -right? Jesse's middle son James G. named a son Payton also. Or was Payton a popular name in the early 1800's?

Children of Jesse & Depsey Brock
Payton/Patton b 1835
James Graham b 1836 [my ancestor who had children (1)Depsey, (2)William (who was apparently renamed James G after his dad died in the civil war), (3) Joseph and (4) Payton/Patton]
Georgia Ann b 1839
Louisa b 1842
Jesse b 1844
John b 1841

Thanks
