My great great grandparents, Jeptha and Angeline HAWKINS have been hard to research. Their daughter, Martha Lou Ellen HAWKINS-MASON was my great grandmother. Martha married James Perry Mason in 1887 in Hamilton County, TN. Below is the only information that I have able to find on the family and their children.

Martha was born in Soddy or Ducktown Tennessee approx. 1864. James was born approx 1855 in Soddy or Ducktown. They settled in Hartford, Arkansas (Sebastian County) where they are buried.

NOTES FROM 1870 and 1880 CENSUS:
In the 1870 Census, the last name was spelled Hawkins. It shows Angeline being born in Georgia.

Daughter; Flora A. was in the census being 16 years old.

In the 1870 Census, it shows Jeptha being a coal miner. In the 1880 Census, he is a farmer.

Since the 1870 Census, two children were born: Jeptha M. age 10 and Amanda E. age 6.

It appears that the family lived in the same house on both censuses.

My great grandmother; Lou E. (as name appears in the 1880 Census) is called Louellen in the 1870 Census. I was told that her real name was Martha Lou Ellen Hawkins-Mason
