Susan (or Susannah) Rutledge Mays or Mayes
Posted by: Carolyn Wertelecki (ID *****9083) Date: February 15, 2012 at 17:17:21

She is reported to be my ggg grandmother and may have died in Wilkes, Banks or Elbert County GA in about 1821. (I saw one entry that said she died in 1814.) I have done some computer searching and can find no record of her or her husband Thomas Edward Mayes/Mays (b: 6/18/1773 d: 1815 in Georgia) whom she is supposed to have married in 1802 in Wilkes County GA. Her brother may have been the James (or John James) Rutledge who owned the Inn/Tavern in New Salem Illinois when Lincoln lived there.

I would appreciate any information about her or any tips on how to establish that she lived or died in either of those counties. Thanks!
