Will of James J. Johnson of Elbert Co. GA w/children
Posted by: Amy Kennedy (ID *****5239) Date: May 04, 2011 at 22:04:50

Below is a full transcription of the Will and Testament of James J. Johnson dated the 13th day of April 1852 in Elbert County, GA. I am posting it for others benefit, but I am also hoping that someone may see a connection and help me find possible ancestors for James J. Johnson.

I know that James J. Johnson (c1800-1852) is my GGGG Grandfather. I cannot find any information about his parents, wife, or siblings. Per Elbert Co. census, he was born in Georgia and his wife probably died between 1840-1850 and was born between 1790-1800. It is also possible that he had more than one wife.

The one clue seems to be the given names of his children listed in his will. They appear to be named after possible ancestors and I have even found a couple of the names listed in early Elbert County documents but have yet to find a connection. Any information about connections between these given names and the Johnson family would be greatly appreciated.

His childrens' given names and approx. birth dates are:
Jessie (1822), Eliza (1826), Nancy Ann (1827), Sarah Elizabeth (1831), Margaret Adley (1832), Dunston Blackwell (1837), Rebecca Jane (1839), Rosa Martin (1840), Enos Tait (1842), and Anthony Verdell (1842).

Marriages for his children that I am aware of are:
Jessie m. Sarah Saxon (1822-aft1900), Rebecca Jane m. Thomas Balchin (1810-1893), Anthony Verdell m. Sarah Algood (1835-1905), and Sarah Elizabeth m. Hudson H. Nash (c.1806).

Here is a full transcription of his will:

In the name of God, Amen
I, James J. Johnson,
