It has long been a family tradition that Catherine Mansfield was from Baltimore, MD. I have found nothing to substantiate that. What is known is that the marriage bonds of William Adams and Catherine "Caty" Mansfield were on 20 Mar 1797 in Fluvanna Co., VA with James Adams giving consent and the bond posted by Joseph G. Mansfield. James Adams was Rev. Sol. James Adams, Jr. and the father of William. James, William and Catherine all moved to Elbert Co., GA. James Adams Rev. War pension application indicated he was born 1753 in Albemarle Co., VA (from which Fluvanna Co. was created), and that he later lived in Fluvanna Co. James died 1835, William died in 1854, and Catherine died ca 1818, all Elbert Co. William Adams had ten children by Catherine and 10 children by his second wife Sarah Head. In 1791 in Albemarle Co. Joseph G. Mansfield appointed his son Lawrence Mansfield his attorney to transact business for him. William Adams and Catherine named a son Lawrence Adams. The 1787 Personal Property tax lists of Albemarle Co. show two Joseph Mansfields, the tax on one being the responsibility of Thomas Jefferson, Esquire. Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, was in Albemarle Co. near the border with Fluvanna Co. Was Joseph Mansfield living in a house owned by Thomas Jefferson? Was this Joseph Mansfield the same as Joseph G. Mansfield? Was Joseph G. Mansfield the father, brother or other close relative of Catherine? How is Lawrence Mansfield associated with Catherine Mansfield Adams? My email is email@example.com
