Dear Jane, I've been puzzling over your three EDWARDS brothers from MS. First, I need to correct and amend the earlier post. Wiliam EDWARDS Sr RS b c 1741 NC m c 1761 m Chloe STOKES b 1744 d 27 Apr 1818 Effingham Co GA bur Corinth Baptist Church, were the parents of three children: Henry EDWARDS RS b 20 Oct 1762 d 15 Nov 1837 RS m Seleta FORSYTHE (separated -- and divorced?) and William EDWARDS Jr b 1770 m Elizabeth BEAL (they had the daughter Chloe EDWARDS DOWNS b c 1802) and Obadiah EDWARDS b 12 Oct 1777 d 14 Oct 1857 m c 1799 m Tabitha PITTS b 24 Aug 1782 NC d 28 Oct 1863 (dau Capt John PITTS RS & Frances GRIFFIN) Now, the eldest of these three children has this service record: S45839 Service: North Carolina Rank: Private Application for pension made by veteran on 1 Jan 1833 at which time he was a resident of Columbia Co., Florida. He gave his age as 71 years. He declared that he resided in Duplin Co., NC, when he enlisted about 1777. He served as a private in the North Carolina troops as follows: He served eight months in 1777 in Capt Grimes Company in Col. Mathews' Regiment, later in the same year he served three months in Capt Isham Sheffield's Company, Col. Kenyon's Regiment. In 1781 he served five months in a troop of cavalry under Capt James Golaspi and was in a skirmish at Sugar Loaf. He has lived since the Revolutionary War in Effingham Co., GA and Telfair Co., GA, and he now resides in Columbia Co., Florida Territory. He mentioned Abel G. Lopar of Columbia Co., Territory of Florida who lived in GA in the same neighborhood as him and who was aware of the destruction of his (Henry's) records. William Edwards of Effingham Co., GA, is also mentioned as a witness to his having served in the army. He died 15 Nov 1837 leaving children (no names given). No mention was made of a wife. No other family data was in the file. Certificate No. 6370 was issued 28 Feb 1833 under the Act of June 7, 1832, at $50.00 per annum from March 4, 1831. Records in Effingham Co GA identify the three children of Seleta FORSYTHE as Sally, Caty and Henry (Jr?), all evidently b < 1797, and either the children of Henry EDWARDS RS or of an earlier marriage. The agreement for final separation of the property of Henry EDWARDS and Serleter FORSYTHE was recorded in 1804-1805; for the Second GA Land Lottery (1807), she is styled "widow." Interesting among these records is the name of a witness -- Senate POWERS. I'll send along abstracts of these records. I can only be suspicious that Henry EDWARDS RS remarried and is the father of your trio, or that he is the gfather of the three. Although the three are from Effingham Co GA originally, perhaps records of Telfair Co GA or Columbia Co FL will be of help concerning the names of Henry's children and their journey westward. <>< God Bless You, Bob ><>
