Adam Stroub (b. 1701 in Ratisbon? Germany, d. Jan 2-3, 1757 Ebenezer, Georgia) arrived in Georgia 1738 in group of Europeans under charge of Trustees to help settle new colony. His wife Peda Clara (widow) is listed as a grantee in 1757 of town lot, in District of Ebenezer (St. Matthew Parish, Georgia, latter in 1777, county of Effingham). Source: Grant Book A, p. 517, St. Matthews Parish. The town lot was # 9 in the 6th tything district of the town of Ebenezer plus 50 acres of land. Grant dated 30 September 1757. Adam was a weaver; and a Salzburger Trust servant. He embarked July 1738; arrived 7 Oct 1738. He was one of two Trust servants assigned to Thomas Christie, Trust Recorder, 11 August 1738, maintained at the Trustees charge. Thomas Christie (b. 1700) was a merchant who had arrived in Savannah 1 Feb 1732-3. The Stroubs also spelled Straub, Straube, were members of the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Effingham County, Georgia and records indicate that the "third daughter of widow Straub, Christine Barbara Haefner, was united in marriage with Caspar Gerber, a cabinet maker, widower from Savannah, Georgia". Church records also stated Adam Straube (sic) died in the night between Jan 2 and 3 1757 and was buried the next day. Clara Straub "died 10 Aug 1762 and was buried 11 Aug 1762 in the Plantation cemetery". The plantation referred to could be Hauesler's plantation where her daughter, Mary Dorothy Haefer was buried. Church records also indicate "Mary Dorothy Haefner, the oldest daughter of the deceased Mrs. Straub, died on Hauesler's plantation 17 April 1763 and was buried there. She was about 30 years old". Ebenezer is an old German settlement, 25 miles from Savannah, Georgia. During the Rev. War, the Lutheran Church was used as a hospital. According to tradition many of these Salzburgers who settled in Georgia moved to Pennsylvania before the Revolutionary. War to avoid taking part in the war It appears from records that Adam Stroub arrived in the third group of Salzburgers to Georgia early in the month of February 1736 on either the Symond under Capt. Joseph Cornish or the London Merchant, under Capt. John Thomas. These two ships embarked at same time and arrived in Savannah early in the month of February 1736. (1st group from Berchtolsgaden, Germany arrived in Charleston, S. C. in March 1734 on the Purrysburg, 2nd group arrived on Price of Wales in Nov. 1734 My gggfather was Peter Straub of Augusta, Georgia. What is relationship of these two families? Where in Europe did Adam and Clara live? Need names of Adams other children. I understand from research that Adam Straub, b. 1701, Palatine, arrived at Ebenezer (Georgia) from Vernonsburg with 6 children and wife "Pieta"; died 1757. (source: Colonial Records of Georgia) Would appreciate any help from fellow researcher willing to share info on Adam Stroub family.. Notify Administrator about this message?
